Greenways Land Trust uses community science as a core tool for connecting people to local ecosystems and generating meaningful biodiversity data. Through our annual Salmonberry Nature Festival, which began in 2026, and its concurrent iNaturalist bioblitz, Greenways brings together naturalists, educators, and community members for expert-led outings, workshops, and public talks that make nature observation accessible to participants of all experience levels.
Central to this work is the use of two widely used citizen science platforms, iNaturalist and eBird, to channel public engagement into real scientific data, with dedicated training sessions helping new users get started and building capacity for ongoing participation well beyond the festival itself.
