Laughing Garden Community Garden

Laughing Willow Community Garden

Greenways is an active partner on the Laughing Willow Community Garden Committee and we are very excited to see this project underway!

About

The Laughing Willow Community Garden is located at Simms Park in Willow Point, Campbell River. Family orientated, wheelchair accessible, organic gardening in a friendly, peaceful environment to enrich our lives and community.

Laughing Willow Community Garden has a vision to:

  • Create a safe, peaceful place for people of all ages to gather and bond over the organic growing and maintenance of a garden.
  • Encourage ecological gardening practices.
  • Provide fresh, organic, produce for the Food Bank and Soup Kitchen. Our leadership committee will be overseeing a large garden dedicated to growing food for these organizations. Garden members and will be encouraged to grow food for the same purpose.
  • Encourage therapeutic gardening for seniors and people with disabilities. “Enabled” garden beds will be available, therapeutic gardening programs as well as peaceful garden lunch dates open to groups who take care of seniors/disabled people.
  • Accessible to everyone. We will ensure that the Laughing Willow Community Garden is accessible to everyone by meeting “accessibility” standards.
  • Enhance the Simms neighbourhood, the Campbell River area and the Communities in Bloom program with an aesthetically beautiful and peaceful community garden.
  • Create an environment that promotes family time in the garden. Kids gardens and a small children's play area will help encourage families to garden together.
  • Educate the community in ecological gardening, sustainability, waste management etc. By practising organic gardening, composting, and by having regular, educational meetings in the garden which will be open to the public.
  • Encourage and support the creation of more community gardens in the Campbell River area. We would like to form a network of Community Gardens in the Campbell River area.
